Jobs

I looked up information about Elementary Teachers. Most of the information I found didn't surprise me except for the fact that teacher growth is expected to be so high. The average salary for teachers in an Elementary position is around $51,660. I also found out that private school teachers do not have to be licensed at first. The things that I read that I have frequently heard before is how rewarding teaching can be. You play so many important roles in all your students lives and you become a role model to them! I think teaching would be a very satisfying job for me!

Thanksgiving!

I have so many things to be thankful for here at TTU!! First of all I have this awesome UBUS teacher! She is just so nice and so helpful to me, so I am definitely thankful for that! I am also thankful for all my sorority sisters! Joining ADPI was probably the best thing I could do to really get involved at Tech. I am especially thankful for T.J. I really am so thankful to have him with me at Tech he has helped me so much and he is always there for me.....awww!

Group Lecture

The first group lecture I attended was over Marketing. There were two speakers total. The first was a girl who has recently graduated from tech. She discussed what all she does for her job and how much she enjoys the variety of work she has through her job. She made very good points about how important marketing is as well. The second speaker was a man who has also graduated recently from Tech. He is a very successful business man already, and gives Tech a lot of credit for how far he has come already. He has a job lined up with Bridgestone and surpassed others applying from that job from other well known colleges. It is very motivational knowing how well Tennessee Tech graduates have done. That really lets you know that even in a suffering economy Tech can still help you be successful in the world.

Career Fair

The Career Fair was the biggest event at Tech I think I have ever been to so far. Except for the football games. There were tables set up everywhere imaginable. It was quite a bit overwhelming! For the most part I saw tables set up for business majors and engineering majors. I did however see one that was for psychology majors, so I stopped and talked to them for quite a while. This year I think the career fair just scared me. When I am a junior and senior I think the career fair will really help me out, because then I will have a more clear idea of what I want to do with my life. As for this year I just had fun collecting pens, papers, and freebies. Better luck next year I guess.

College of Business Organization Meeting

I went to two of the college of business meetings just to see different sides of business opportunities. The first meeting I attended was the Study Abroad meeting. I learned that there are so many options so that studying abroad isn't impossible to do. I am really excited about traveling and I hope that I get to go somewhere with in the next year or so. The second meeting reassured me that I will never be an accountant. The accounting meeting didn't make much sense at all to me and I instantly knew that it would never be the job for me. I do have a lot of respect for people in that major because it does take a lot of knowledge, just not the kind I have. If I further myself in the business world it will be in entrepreneurship and that is as far as I think I want to go as far as business goes. I would love to be able to own my own store one day. So the accounting club might not be the place to go to for help.

Student Organization Meeting

For class today several different student groups came and talked to us about more business groups going on at Tech. I learned that there are clubs, organizations, fraternities, and even study abroad groups available here. The one that interested me the most at the meeting was the study abroad opportunity. I know that I am highly interested in traveling while I learn, but I am not to sure when a good time for that would be. I will definitely look in to it more just to understand what is going on better. The Study Abroad Fair is coming soon so I will get good information on upcoming opportunities.

Community Service Project

The Warrior Dash was in Tennessee for the first time this year in Manchester. It was at the same location Bonaroo is. The Warrior Dash was not only a 5K race, it was an obstacle course too. There was a total of 10 obstacles through out the course. We had to climb over walls, jump through tires, go over cars, army crawl through a dark tent in the mud, go under several barb wires, climb over and down different kinds of huge walls, jump over fire, and swim through 3 feet of mud all while running the long 3.15 miles. I have ran several 5Ks before for other causes, but this one was by far the hardest. Usually I finish in 30 min but this one took me a little longer. I finished with mud from head to toe, blisters all over my feet, and sweat everywhere all in 45 minutes. I am a girly girl so having mud on me was quite the sacrifice! Oh and I am still recovering from the deep blisters by the way! After the race everyone took off there shoes to donate and put them in a pile that ended up being almost 10 feet tall. Thousands of people ran the race in groups all throughout the day. The end of the day result was thousands of muddy and accomplished people, shoes over 10 feet tall, and a little over 1 million dollars raised to support people in poverty. I would say that serves as a good day!

Community Service Selection

For my community service I ran in the 5K Warrior Dash in Manchester Tennessee. This project has already been approved in class, because it was for a cause.

Fine Arts

In the art gallery in the UC they recently have had a lot of black and white canvases set up in the room. If you were to walk in and just randomly look at them it wouldn't mean very much. I however really tried to look at them and see what the artist really wanted others to see. A lot of the pictures had a city scene some where in the picture. They all had extreme detail in them and showed very specific emotion in all the peoples faces. You could tell if they were showing a positive or negative emotion also based on how light or dark the shades of gray and black were. I'm not really an artsy person so I can't really look at an artistic piece and really understand what it means, but I think I will continue to walk in the Art Gallery. It is really amazing how artistically capable some people are. I think I might just take an art class sometime and see how artsy I can be.

The First Football Game

The first football game was absolutely one to remember! We played against Maryville College and won 56-7. I would have to say that #3 was the best player of the game! The game was very good and I loved watching it but after we were up by so much I started to watch the band and cheerleaders more. The cheerleaders were very good except for the one that let a girl fall from a stunt. I am positive that she must have been sore for a long time because that fall looked like it hurt really bad! The fans were definitely excited to be at that game. My mom even got her picture taken with one of the students that had dressed up in a morph costume. If the really pumped up fans weren't wearing morph costumes they had their chests painted. I am very excited for the next game especially because it is family weekend so the crowd will be much bigger!

Personality Test

When I got on to take my personality test I wasn't sure what kind of questions the test would have on it. I wasn't sure what my results would be either. I know what things I like and don't like to do but seeing the actual results on paper wasn't something I could predict. The actual questions were easy to answer, easier than I thought. The highest score I got was of course social. I am a very social person so working in an office or any closed environment would drive me crazy. Next I got enterprising. I can see where that would be high on the charts also because I like that side of business. Last I got investigative. I also see where I would score high in that because I like to find things out for myself and kinda figure things out. I just wonder if the results would ever change maybe in different stages of someones life.

Career Assessment Day

Today we had quite a few students come in and talk to us more about business opportunities. Some were here to talk about different accounting clubs. Some talked to us about fraternities that were all about business. However the one that got my attention the most was the girl who talked about a study abroad opportunity. Although my major might change I still think it would be an unforgetable opportunity to study somewhere other than the United States. Just the chance to see the way other people live and how their day to day lives work is amazing to me. I really want to go to some of their meetings to get more information about the different places that I could possibly go to study abroad. When ever a good chance comes up I will absolutely take it. Until then I will be saving up lots of money!

Group Lecture 1

During our group lecture we all learned the strict importance of graduating college. This is so important and can even mark the difference in around 1 million more dollars made in a life time. Now a days, especially in these tough economic times, it is extremely important and maybe even vital to have a college degree to get a good high paying job. For some companies a resume without any record of college time on it is not even taken seriously. Just four years can make a world of difference in the rest of your lifetime. So when college starts to get tough I continually motivate myself by thinking of what 4 years of hard work can do for many many years until retirement. It really is a million dollar difference!
